چکیده
In the context of seismoelectric and self-potential surveying, effective excess charge density electrokinetic coupling coefficient are key parameters relating measured electrical potential hydraulic characteristics explored porous media. this work, we present a novel flux averaging approach that permits to estimate frequency-dependent in partially saturated For this, conceptualize medium as bundle capillary tubes under oscillatory conditions. We account for pore size distribution (PSD) determine capillary-pressure saturation relationship corresponding medium, which, turn, scale saturation. then solve Navier-Stokes equations within capillaries and, by means flux-averaging procedure, obtain upscaled expressions for: (a) density, (b) permeability, (c) coefficient, which functions probing frequency. analyze explain these three different PSDs: fractal, lognormal, double lognormal. It is shown PSD have strong effect on response. The proposed has an excellent capability reproducing experimental measurements models literature, otherwise based well-known empirical relationships. results work constitute useful framework interpretation signals

Waves in Partially Saturated Porous Media
E orts to extend the theory of poroelasticity to semilinear and nonlinear elastic response, to partially saturated pores, to inhomogeneous solid frame materials, and to viscous losses due to localized ow e ects are summarized. The prospects for a comprehensive theory of wave propagation in partially saturated porous media and the reasons for needing such a theory are also discussed. The main re...
متن کاملmodeling of hydraulic fracture problem in partially saturated porous media using cohesive zone model
in this paper, a finite element model is developed for the fully hydro-mechanical analysis of hydraulic fracturing in partially saturated porous media. the model is derived from the framework of generalized biot theory. the fracture propagation is governed by a cohesive fracture model. the flow within the fracture zone is modeled by the lubrication equation. the displacement of solid phase, and...
متن کاملPreferential Flow Phenomena in Partially-Saturated Porous Media
Preferential flow in unsaturated porous media, in the form of fingers and channels, has been observed to take place in different types of media and at different scales. The preferential flow is caused by fluid instabilities, created by density or viscosity differences, or because of heterogeneities in the geological media. In this study, two very different types of preferential flow problems ar...
متن کاملQuantifying colloid retention in partially saturated porous media
[1] The transport of colloid-contaminant complexes and colloid-sized pathogens through soil to groundwater is of concern. Visualization and quantification of pore-scale colloid behavior will enable better description and simulation of retention mechanisms at individual surfaces, in contrast to breakthrough curves which only provide an integrated signal. We tested two procedures for quantifying ...
متن کاملModeling colloid attachment, straining, and exclusion in saturated porous media.
A conceptual model for colloid transport is developed that accounts for colloid attachment straining, and exclusion. Colloid attachment and detachment is modeled using first-order rate expressions, whereas straining is described using an irreversible first-order straining term that is depth dependent. Exclusion is modeled by adjusting transport parameters for colloid-accessible pore space. Fitt...
